New Orc Quests - (spoilers)

Went through the entire quest line until I reached the point where I was asked to stop Scrounger. So, during his talk there is an easy way to escape conversation without attacking his army. The quest alludes to a possible alternative, more peaceful solution just in the way Scrounger speaks.

I ended up attacking him and thus ending the quest line as completed but surely there must be a way to solve this differently? Anyone care to shed some light?
