Sad day for vintage aircraft! I bet flugwerk will be working hard to put this machine back in the air!

...sad. I saw it @ Flying Legends 2009. It was really something special. I even could talk with the people preparing it to fly home on monday, sensing their proudness for the butcher bird. Sad.

I hope they can rebuild it.

Thank goodness for a quick salvage operation. Is this the second Flugwerk FW190 to have an accident? I saw another with collapsed landing gear and a bent propeller.

Just unlucky I guess. I hope they can restore these aircraft to flying condition soon.

Well, the Fw190 with a LaaLaa engine is blasphemy so the Wuerger decided to ditch Seriously speaking, good they salvaged the plane and pilot is OK.

Yes it's a Flugwerk replica FW190 built to almost the same specifications as a FW190A-8. It's kind of beyond a replica in my mind but replica is probably the easiest way to understand it. The engine in it is a Ash-82FN which is the same engine that powered the La-5FN during World War II. It was built for airshow use.

Its my understanding that the airframe is nearly identical to an A8, just with a different engine, modern instruments, and an absence of mounted guns. It's basically a new build Fw-190, some aircraft even use several original parts, sort of like the new built Me-262's a few years ago. I wish we could have a real dogfight/flight test and finally sort out the Fw-190 debate in Il2.

It would be interesting to see the cost of this recovery and restoration versus buying a new Flugwerk 190 replacement. As I recall, a brand new aircraft was in the $500K to $600K range.

S!
