Default Newbie - IL-2 Out of the box, patched

Which is the latest patch for the original game that will replace all previous ones? I've been experiencing a persistent problem trying to run the game and I'm hoping patching will help. It regularly minimizes on me, and I can't find the conflict. I've shut everything I can think of off. The game doesn't crash, just mimimizes, requiring me to mouse over and maximize again. Drives me crazy. I'm hoping patching will help.

Thanks.

Bearcat,

Per my post, it's the original. Dating all the way back. Been a long time, LONG time, but trying to get back into it.

Thanks,

Coog

I think maybe you should post the actual VERSION you are playing right now. When you start the game, while it is loading, you will see the version number in the lower left corner.

The actual version which replaces all before is 4.09m final.
It is obtainable by installing il2-1946 and the patches 4.08 and 4.09.
The IL2-1946 DVD, which is version 4.71m, is for sale at about 3$ to 10$ in stores around the world.(There might be regions where it is more expensive)

I agree with robotek, buy IL2 1946 as that is what all online gamers are using (it includes ALL the IL2 games and add ons released - Forgotten battles, Aces expansion, Pacific Fighters, PE-2, Sturmoviks over Manchuria, 1946). Find it in some bagain bin out there for less than 10$ and apply patch 4.08m and then 4.09m.

Otherwise there is a long and dwindling route for patching the original that no one uses anymore so no multiplayer servers will be available. Multiplayer is the best part of IL2 according to many of us, and there are MANY online servers running 4.08m, 4.09m in different difficultly settings available if you download the free netgame helper application Hyperlobby (find some tutorial for setting it up - the important thing is to select the game "IL2 Forgotten Battles", even though you have 1946!). There are also many that are content with the offline setting, and many missions and campaigns have been produced during the years for that gang.

Good luck! /Mazex

Thank you very much for all of the responses. Yes, I was working with the original, out of the box, with no specified version in the lower left-hand corner of the start screen. Was going down a long dark road trying to patch it, so I'll just pick-up 1946, which I figured I wanted to do anyway. Also working with a sub-par machine, but was waiting for SoW to upgrade. Anyway, thanks all! Great folks here!

Thanks once again to all! Now have 1946 up and running (including 4.08 and 4.09) with new CH pedals and fighterstick (man, what a difference they make). Anyway, amazing improvements and extras over the original...loving it! Can't wait for SoW!

Regards,

Coog
