Zhuangzi, are you able to provide a bit of an overview of the game? I'm having fun doing the separate text missions from reboot but it seems like SR2 doesn't provide much direction as to what to do in the 'main game'.

For instance, I start a new game, fly out from my ship in the space zone I start out in by default, and just fly around and not too much happens around me. The days just pass by, the one time I did see some pirate type vessel attacking one of the transport ships so I decided to attack the pirate so I damaged him up a bit, and he said he'd offer up 100cr if I'd let him go. I refused a couple times and eventually he just ran away since he was faster.

I understand the game is kind of free-form like Pirates! correct? So I could become a trader, or a pirate, or serve one of the races, etc. But at the start it seems my ship is slow, I can't catch much, everything speeds away from me so fighting isn't too productive and I'd rather be a fighter pilot than a trader .

Do you have any tips on how to find a bit more direction in the game for a new player for progression? Like should I focus on doing quests for one race at the start (and where would be the best place to pick them up), or should I pick an enemy at the start and try to visit their systems to harass them or would they just likely kill me off? I find the game to be a bit too open-ended at the start since I have no clue what I should be doing, and I don't seem to be finding anything 'interesting' to do on my own.
Okay, a few things you should know.

1. Don't worry about time. Don't worry about the Dominators taking over systems. It will balance out in time. It really doesn't matter how long you spend doing various things.

2. You need money to buy better equipment. The best way to get money (IMO) is not so much to harrass pirates etc, because you are too weak early on. You need to do quests. Planetary quests are worth quite a bit. You should be able to do the first one very early. Talk to the administrator at each planet and find out if they have any work.

3. Continued from 2, you can also do text quests and fed-ex type quests early on. It's easy to take something to a different planet. Maybe avoid the escort type missions early on.

4. When you have done plenty of easy quests, you will have money for better equipment. You need to reduce the size of the equipment you have on your ship. So you should replace size 60 drives and grippers etc with size 30 or even 20. Very important. You can use the search function in the news tab on planets for searching. I think you need to click the magnifying glass icon.

5. Then, don't stress. This is a little bit free-form, but basically quests of various kinds are your bread and butter. Sure, you can play the game in different ways from this, but I had no problem beating the game on Hard without spending much time on pirates at all. Later in the game you will spend a lot of time fighting the Dominators.

Hope that helps, and feel free to ask anything else.
