I'm not 100% sure KB is better than space ranger. I only played space ranger 2 reboot which I found to like quite a bit. I was not a big fan of the rts part in which I struggled quite a bit but the rest of the game was very enjoyable and i saw much room for additions.
I do hope this new game does not focus on MP or downgrades the SP experience. If so then hopefully it will be fun
