SBD Dud bombs
Good morning all!
After flying several missions in the SBD airplane and noticing my bombs pretty much always failing to explode, I did some testing.
Parameters of the test:
Aircracft: SBD-3
Game version: 4.14.1
Map: Hawaii
Target: Aircraft hangers, Hickam AAF (Targets at sea level)
Bombing runs: 6 total. (3 with 500 pound bomb, and 3 with 1000 pound bomb)
Bombs tested: Single 500# or Single 1000# Instant fuse, 0.1 sec delay
All bombs dropped in standard dive bombing attack commencing from 5000 ft. Followed bombs to target using Ordinance View
The game gives the following MINIMUM drop altitude. Its the same for both bombs. 193 meters (633 Feet). So ideally anything above this altitude should work....
Results:
Bombs dropped from 1000 Ft. (305m) ----- Bombs failed to explode
Bombs dropped from 1500 Ft (457m ) ----- Bombs failed to explode
Bombs dropped from 2000 Ft (609m) ----- Finally, bombs explode!
So... To get bombs to explode, I had to be 3X ABOVE what is listed as the minimum drop altitude. And SBD is not the only plane affected. I have similar problems with bombs not going off in the U-2!
Can anyone else verify/corroborate my test results?
