PS. the desktop composition option that apparently is sometimes the problem isn’t this time, so I simply cannot record.

Are you using Catsy's Trigger mod with <ARMY> message tags? I have found when I do that I can't record. I get a "Track not Saved" message and not a game crash though. On your system it might be causing the game to crash?
