The Next Generation should work on all versions, although there are some minor localization issues that can be easily fixed by renaming the language file appropriately. There's a notice beside both download links in case you missed it.
I don't see any cause for the mana regen mod not working though, it's just a script file so it shouldn't be having any problems. Did you extract the KFS archive from the Zip? Did you put it in the right folder? Did you hover over the time indicator? Did you try to open and close the spellbook beforehand?
