Did you get his 2nd quest...? You get THE STILL TALKING AXE quest after giving the Lumber axe, but ONLY if you talk to him again...

One Axe I got from one of three brothers who sold ships and one I found somewhere. I complete first quest, and after you say I checked and yes I can get second quest to find 50 eggs.
