If it is anything like the old one, I would think that damage model will still work, because in the old one you could destroy your planes in many ways such as crash landings, pulling too many G's (so take your time when you pull out of steep dives)
, shot down, etc.
I have cut tails off with the props and am able to keep going, but I prefered to "gear kill" the wings.
