I don't know if this helps but try setting all graphic opions to minimum, disable shadows/antialiasing etc. Disable all sounds.
If after this it works ok start enabling them one by one until you find the problem one.
The game is very enjoyable even with minimum graphics and no sounds (I play it like that becausemy computer is a bit old).
