You guys are probably already familiar with this white paper by Intel. The paper seems to show gamers some love, if only in the form of the yet-to-be-released Larrabee processor. I was thinking of Sow_BoB when I read it. Yet another different socket, even form the i7 series, but maybe worth the wait. See what you think:

ps the Larrabee processor is an i5 versus the now more familiar i7, and so requires a different socket, and it does not use tri-channel memory, but it may be closer to what is needed to get good results from BoB, and at a lower cost too.
