I first met (played)games on programming course (for children) and even When I was 12, I was most fortunate to get my first PC 286, hercules (who does not know what hercules could mean - don't even bother to google it) - and games like 3D-block, South vs. North, and after some time waiting I got Dune 2 (w/o mouse - huge problem) and CIV 1 (than I had EGA already... yipeee)
