Simply hold down Ctrl or Alt to cast a Lower Level spell -
any spell. This is one feature of the game I only dreamed of having and this is the first game I see such a genius option available.
(especially useful when you want to use Sacrifice Level 1 instead of Level 3 or 2 so you don't go over your leadership...)
