Yeah I've seen weird cases with Ancient Phoenix. Typically I never let it resurrect (but if you cast it, sometimes there are graphical glitches since it will let you try to resurrect while something is on top of you)
I've fought a few Phoenixes before and can't quite recall running into this problem (besides me doing the problem to the AI, but it was able to kill me anyway after a few rounds). My suggest is after you down it, stick a unit over it to prevent its resurrection.
Another option is to try to cast Geyser which sadly works on Ancient Phoenixes now.
[shrugs] this reminds me of the old Crossworlds / Rune Mage / Sheep / Royal Griffin bug.

Where units would appear in hexes but they were really in OTHER hexes.
