Jabout,
there are many people on these forums that use large lcd tv screens to play il2/CoD on, most dont have problems (but you need to spend some time looking into the specs, features and price)
of the mainstream brands currently some of the best lcd's are made by samsung, previous years sony rated high but they have been significantly overtaken
but for the better samsung ranges (series 7 and 8 ) you will pay a significant price premium. the series 8 uses an IPS pannel, and the series 7 is MVA i think. as with pc lcd monitors, the cheapest range in lcd screens from most brands uses TN panel technology (which for the critical viewer is a major step down in quality) . the higher end recent samsungs also are upgradable, where a special user accessible box is located on the back of the screen so you can upgrade the "brain" of the tv at a later date if you so choose
if you have a true HD tv (not just "HD ready", which is often only 720p resolution) the 1080p resolution will let you sit close enough to not get pixilation, while still getting the immerse effect from the large screen. as a ballpark figure, you usually want your eyes about 2x the height of the screen away for gaming, if you sit closer you will get pixilation on all lcd's (even pc monitors)
i would advise you to spend some time to learn about lcd technology and read reviews from various good sources. then spend a few weeks window browsing at retailers that have them setup side by side, so you get an idea what the better ones look like. dont get smaller then 46', but 55' is prob the better size for most mixed use. larger then 55 quickly gets pretty expensive unless you buy a lesser brand/model.
remember, the hunt is as much fun as the kill, take some time to do your background work and you'll be happier in the following yrs
