It was fixed in my extended awards mod. Those that want the fix without the modifications can apply the same fix by looking at the included medals.txt.
In addition, none of these LUA functions appear to work:
Game.MessageBox(...)
Game.InvokeMsgBox(...)
Game.Log(...)
Game.atom_getpar(...)

I've added a Modding section to the bug thread and included the information about the LUA files. About fixing only the Guardian Award I am not sure what to change... (I'm an inexperienced mooder). When you have time it would help to see which code to change, similar to how it's done on page 1
here.
