I don't know what the mechanics of it are or if it is too time consuming or expensive to release a patch via Steam. It makes sense to me to do it though.

.copying over a 'parts' folder into your game directory will not muck up your installation...its as easy as 'check file intergrity' via steam options to get it back to where you have it now...all personal settings will remain the same
