I then did a system restore and the crash has gone, so its an issue with .NET framework.

I was looking into this issue, the
Beta patch have crashes in the .net interface, when exiting from the game or selecting recorded tracks for example.
The problem is caused by one of this Windows updates :

They are critical security fixes that modify .net files.
This problem is fixed when you execute a repair in Framework 4 because the reparation will restore the files to the original state, erasing the critical security fixes modifications in the files.
BTW , I guess this thread is important for everyone who want this game fixed so pls ... let aside the developer bashing.
