Practice the flying part first, until you fully understand your aircraft.

Learn about how propeller pitch and manifold pressure affect your speed and heat management.

Put it on Auto Pilot and look at the RPM and manifold pressure readings that the AI uses.

Learn to trim. You will never get the maximum out of your aircraft until it is trimmed up properly.

Be fore warned, this is a never ending process. If you move the throttle or change propeller pitch much at all, you will need to re-trim.
