I came across this previously after one of the updates, when luthier stated that they had changed the LOD bias so that selecting lower detail levels would not be that noticeable. I tested by setting model detail to ‘Medium’, and tried to find any visual difference in the detail of the aircraft without success. I did notice that on occasion the markings on some aircraft were not visible at a certain distance from my own, but this wasn’t consistent enough to form an opinion. It also seemed to be influenced by the number of aircraft present, almost as if there was an aircraft texture ‘budget’ which was affected by the setting.

I also feel that some of the graphic settings are not named correctly, which may be a result of the translation from the original Russian. For example, ‘Buildings Amount’ seems to change the amount of buildings textured inside the visible LOD circle, rather than the implied amount physically rendered – this should rather be called ‘Building Texture Amount’, which would more accurately describe its function.

Most of us seem to have an aversion to turning any graphic details down to obtain better frame rates, but this didn’t appear to have much of an impact on visual quality previously. However, since the latest patch, it seems turning settings up does not have as much of a negative impact on frame rates as before. This may be why many did not see any performance increase with the patch, but would have if they increased the graphic settings and saw a lower than expected decrease in frame rates.
