There were lots of reports late in the battle of 109 Jabos flying at impressive altitudes with RAF fighters struggling to get to them; Don Caldwell, for example, notes: "The raids were exceedingly difficult to intercept, coming over at such high speed and altitudes that only Spitfires had a chance to reach them. Park formed a special reconnaissance flight (this was
