Teamspeak is a Voice over IP program.
(short: TS or TS2, because the current version is Teamspeak2 but most commonly the number is dropped).

You download and install a client on your computer. You run the program and connect to a server, either by searching it or by adding it manually to your own server list. After joining the server you choose a channel.

Now you basically transmit through your microphone to all people on this channel and you can hear them. There is a little delay (lag) between the moment you speak and they hear it and the other way around, but that is pretty low.

The program is pretty easy to use for most people, but it has some flaws. At first the message delay lag, the sound quality - remember, this software is pretty old and shaped for performance, not quality, compared to counterparts like Ventrilo and it also has problems with some sound configurations. But considering how many people use TS2, it's still the best choice if you play on different servers.
