All you really need to get started are radiator/oil cooler controls, gear up/down, weapon 1 and weapon 2, fuel cock #1 toggle (does the spit have 2 fuel cocks?), prop pitch, elevator trim, and boost cut-out in addition to your ailerons/elevator/rudder/throttle controls.
A lot of Allied guys also bind open/close canopy to somewhere convenient, as the canopies can restrict your view a fair amount (less of a problem in the spit than the hurri).
