No game breaks a gfx card. Some games do push the cards but all in all it comes down do keeping the computer cool both internal and environment. That means maintaining the computer by cleaning out dust in fans and other parts. I clean my computer every 3rd month and i have never experienced any overheating issue by doing so. Also, using a fan controller software like "MSI Afterburner" and set up a profile speeding up the fans at certain temps is important. Especially if you are gaming several hours straight. You can also set up hysteresis temps where an alarm goes off when high temps are reached.

There are a lot of ways to protect yourself against overheat. Just my 2 cents
