Stats are a measure of progress and performance. Some people go so far as to live an die by them, encouraging some quite childish antics on-line just to get points, but most of us just want to know how we are doing. It adds something to the 'purpose' of CoD to see our stats alongside others as you can on some server websites. Also, there's a certain pride in trying to be top squad (after all the effort of training and working together) or in the top x of y players - which I usually am not

.
Medals and Careers seem to be most appropriate for single player off-line play which is more focussed on specific limited objectives rather than the unpredictable nature of on-line missions and combat contacts.
Ground kill stats should be available and it would be good if ground-attack deaths could be recorded separately from air-combat deaths to get separate K/Ds but I'm not sure how that would be done - perhaps by target-damage identification.
