Why would I buy Battle for Moscow?
Now this post will cover some old ground…
Clod as it stands is an incomplete game, in other words things promised during development never made it into the game or simply do not work as indicated. This is mainly gameplay related but extends to graphic and FM problems too. All old news and has been mentioned in countless posts.
So am I concerned about how complete the Battle for Moscow will be on release? The simple answer is a resounding yes!
The good thing however is we will not be expected to go on pure faith that the sequel is as good as advertised. We will have the Russian forum to guide us on whether to buy or not to buy as it is my understanding that it will be released there first.
I like the merge idea (a constant throughout the old IL2) which means each new incarnation of the original adds all the bells and whistles of the latest release.
I had hoped however at this stage they would have opened up parts of the SDK to allow modders to bring more ships, vehicles into the current game and to allow for an exponential growth of the sequel.
Each sequel should effectively double the content of existing titles as they are merged and be almost tripled with player added content. (This is still one area that is lacking in the current game.)
Had more ships been built post release I am sure a DLC expansion would have been released for the existing plane set with a few additions to have allowed campaign makers to have created an African (Mediterranean) campaign including maybe even the battle for Greece and lower Balklands.
The battle for Moscow should see early Cannon armed Spitfires, Hurricanes making and appearance which effectively enables the extension of the Channel war beyond the Battle of Britain.
What is needed is for the developers to start tapping into the massive old IL2 resource that is people based and using them to flesh out the basic game.
