Well i sugest you try it with out the a copie of the old config.ini file because if you try to do that its never gonna work.
Just use the original clean config.ini put there wen it installed and adjust that After you have set everything up with the games own options so most things wil be set corectly by that.
If posible use a guide and dont mes with things your not sure of what they actualy do.
Set in the Nvidia Controll panel everything that can be set to "Let Aplication Decide" etc under 3D settings, do not force anything on or off in there.
Only a few newer DVD player/burners got a problem with SecuRom software and seeing the message hese getting i dont think this is the case for him.
I take it the game did install normaly also for him as he didnt say anything about having problems with it installing.
Its wise to configure in the config.ini file wich core to use or IL2 will try to use all 4 cores as if it was one, optimal is the use of 1 core the game.
Even the latest games like Crysis and CoD4 do not make any use of a QuadCore, basicly for gaming there is no diference between a E6600 or a Q6600 for performance.
(typed a whole lot more down here but desided it wasnt gonna help you solve the problem so i deleted it)
