First things first, Although I believe that this particular and other image effects contribute to the immersion of the flying experience it, is far more important tho look at the graphic engine in terms of performance/stability rather to it's contents in terms of effects. There are several issues far more important to deal in the mean time.
e.g. performance/stability increase, buildings poping/disappearing and sluggish smoothness flying low over villages/cities, lack of AA, shimmering shadows and of course those annoying lines on the horizon AMD users are experiencing.
After getting a bullet prof graphic engine, then "we" can start worrying about puting it more realistic/beautiful to our eyes.
