More difficult question is about starting up and heating properly an aircraft, without damaging the engine or exceeding the limits.

For example I remember Bleinheim IV has radial engine and is very difficult st start and then run safely within the limits. And if you exceed them, you will loose your engine, so you have to monitor and set correctly the parameters during all phases of the flight.

Some are easier, for example Spitfire, you would like to heat up above 80°C then open up the radiator half, do not exceed about 110°C, which never occurs radiator opened. During warming up, do not exceed 0 on the boost, stay safely under.
