Is that the one that Ju-52s fly during the night to drop supplies? Even though you are correct in your assessment that AI wingmates don't help much, do what KAV suggested, i.e. keep pressing that “wingmen button” and my advice to you is to restart the mission as soon as you fail to destroy individual plane within few seconds (< 5), because you'll run out time to chase another group of transporters and they will reach the drop zone. Key is also to reach those groups very fast and as far away as possible from the drop zone so you have enough time to bring them down, but do not position yourself too far from the other transport group.
