What i do is restart it on my own:
1) Change settings
2) Exit the sim
3) Launch the sim again
This way i have never had an issue with settings not being kept.

I don't know if it's a bug or not, but I can't save my settings in another file, save as... It ask me the place where I want save it, I give the name, then nothing at all, no file is created...
