Get Terraria.

Way more addicting and time consuming than it looks. Basically fight monsters and mine, then build things from what you mine.

Team Fortress 2 just became free to play and it's at the top of Steams most played games. It's an FPS.

Edit - Apparently Terraria is 9.99 USD right now but it's easy to catch on sale for 25% or more off.
