its not that there is something wrong with the sim in that regard, it is your own monitor that is probably to small (and you also might be using wider FoV setting then you should for your monitor size)

if your monitor is large enough (or you use several monitors), and you have the correct field of view set for that monitor size in-game, then flying low over the terrain will give a pretty good "sense of speed"

right now most people are sitting in front of relatively small monitors (yes, 24' is small compared to the 180 degree vision most pilots have, and theperipheral parts are the most important), and in order to "see more in-game" (have better peripheral vision) many people set an artificially higher FoV for their monitor size, that in turn shrinks ingame object sizes, so it does the exact oposite of what you are after (it is important to keep buildings and trees in their correct sizes)
