IF memory serves, IL2 was not designed to use 6DOF due to the way the 3D cockpits where made(certain pilot viewing angles using 6DOF would show gaps in the cockpit that where not programmed in), but I can imagine it would possible to apply the zooming function for TrackIR users with no ill-effects or advantage when compared to non-TrackIR users.
Regarding the sound Mod and from what I have heard, it seems to have increased the realism and quality of sounds on some of the planes(?). I've also heard that it can be used as a cheat because you can hear other enemy planes from further away (which seems daft/not very "real" to me).
Either way, it shows that there is still quite a few things that can be done with this sim to enhance the immersion factor, which IMHO, is one of its week points.
