There was a recent article on THG about the application of AA in modern games, and it’s a bit more complicated than used to be the case. Apparently, in some cases AA cannot be applied to certain shader effects (the article was typically long-winded and involved), and they examined various AA modes in a number of games using both Ati and nVidia cards – some modes had no effect in some games, others were more successful.
It may be the case that current drivers are not employing the process effectively enough to be noticeable. I haven’t tried ‘super sampling’ yet, which results in a huge fps drop in other games I’ve tried, along with a very obvious ‘smoothing’ of everything. It definitely doesn’t work as well as it does in Rof, for example, but maybe future drivers will have better results
