Clarifying a Few PSN Points
We wanted to take this opportunity to clarify a point and answer one of the most frequently asked questions today.
There’s a difference in timing between when we identified there was an intrusion and when we learned of consumers’ data being compromised. We learned there was an intrusion 19th April and subsequently shut the services down. We then brought in outside experts to help us learn how the intrusion occurred and to conduct an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. It was necessary to conduct several days of forensic analysis, and it took our experts until yesterday to understand the scope of the breach. We then shared that information with our consumers and announced it publicly yesterday evening.
For those who were looking there’s also an FAQ with some more on frequently asked questions
Thank you for your continued patience and support
Well thanks a lot Sony, you werent sure so you thought we'll wait a few days just to make sure..... horse, stable door and bolted spring to mind.
This is turning into a PR nightmare for Sony. From what was a 'When can i play again' community suddenly its now 'where the feck is my data, who's got it and what are they likely to do with it'.
Im glad I hadn't updated my Credit Card data when it expired back in February not that gives much comfort.
I see actions being brought against Sony should anyone find that during this 'understanding the scope of the breach' they've been robbed.
@Winny. I changed my auto- login a while back so that I decide if and when I log in. After the problem last year I changed my setup.
As for the store the last purchase I made was on the 15th and had no issues. I do still have credit on there so I would like to know what the current situation is. I did hear a rumour that as part of this hack people did recieve funds into their wallet although I've yet to see anything concrete. That said I think its time for Sony to start a charm offensive to give the 77 million community members some form of tangilble apology for this mess.
