The real unfortunate thing was...the Defiant's planned successor, the P.96's were never put into production. They would of been armed with 2 or 4 wing mounted 20mm cannon (depending on the model), in addition to the 4 x .303 mahine gun turret. They would of been powered by either the 2,300 HP Napier Sabre NS6SM engine (P.96B) with an estimated maximum speed of 392 MPH at 21,000 ft or the 2,300 HP Bristol Centaurus CE45M engine (P.96D) with an estimated maximum speed of 389 MPH at 21,000 ft. All that remains are some plans and a few wooden models.
