Still have my old Spectrum and fired it up some year ago and played Fighter Pilot. I think it had about 4 fps in average but with those awesome graphics people understood. Not a single wining was heard in the reviews about that...
I remember persuading my dad spending $200 on the 32k upgrade from 16k to 48k on my spectrum to get games like this running

You get a bit more memory for that cash theese days
