Here is a post I put up 2 weeks ago after I saw one fly. I will also link some of my quick videos I took.
Just got back... Here is some history on this particular build. It's indeed a Flugwerk FW190 and they don't call it a replica. They call it a "New Build" since its for the most part built off the actual designs. At first one would think that you get a kit and you put it together in a few months. The simple fact remains is that that isn't really the deal at all. The plane came with a Copy of the BMW 801 but since the directions are all in either Chinese or Russian they opted to put a PW R2800. It's actually one inch larger and weighs 26 pounds more than the BMW copy. In order to keep costs down the opted not to put in Kommandogerät which is essentially a mechnical Flight computer which controls several performance variables for the plane. It took into account airtemp in the inlets, altitude, throttle setting, prop settings and reduced the pilots work load considerably. Steve apprently has flown pretty much every type of Allied plane including British planes and said it performs like you would think any 2000HP in a small plane would. In short they had to develope a few things to get the CG correct and to adapt the different engine. They've had some problems with cooling since the FW as designed to take a large engine and tuck in nice and neat into a rather small cowling. Steve has also gotten to test fly Paul Allen's (Microsoft) real restored FW and compared the two. Paul's version does sport the real BMW 801 and cooling system which he described is very advanced for its time and is very effective at keeping the motor cool. This version has had modifcations to try and keep the tempurature under control. He said it's still work in progress. I was able to see some of the modifications today. Essencially putting oil coolers on the wings to keep it cool during flight has helped out quite a bit.
It flew today and did a single pass before making a landing. I suspect there is still quite a bit of work to be done but it was my first time ever seeing anying close to a real FW flying.
