Also, what steering device do you have? Most problems with steering in this game can be fixed by going into the config file directly to over-ride the files in the game itself. I have posted them in the "Control Devices & Wheel Issues" thread HERE, and it seemed to help others. I use the Logitech G25 with pedals & shifter. Wheel Devices may differ, but generally this is where you need to go, because the in-game configurations tends not to save most changes, and reverts back to default. Don't ask me why.
Thanks for tip on the lights!

As for the steering device, I have a fairly generic one which I no longer use due to the physical aspects of the device: huge dead zone, stiff turning, and the fact that the wheel re-centers itself.

Having said that, I did manage to come up with satisfactory solution (after some experimentation) to steering with the left and right arrow keys which others may find useful:

1. Within the 'Settings'>'Controls' menu, adjust the 'Sensitivity' to its lowest setting. This can be accomplished by either clicking on the left arrow button until only one green light is visible or by just clicking on the leftmost green light.

2. Completely turn off the 'Centering Force' option by clicking on the left arrow until there are no green lights visible.

Using this setup, the player can "crank" the wheels all the way to the left or right and they will stay in that position until the player turns them back. This setup also reduces the amount of input needed to steer the truck while driving since the steering wheels do not re-center themselves.

As a word of caution, this setup does take a little while to get used to but it does allow for some fluidity with the steering of most trucks.
