With DX11 tessalation it would not be nearly as hard on the GPU. With modern multicore cpus they should easily be able to handle large fights with hundreds of planes, I dont see any reason why they couldnt since the AI load hasnt increased a huge amount (like say Civ4-Civ5 or STW-RTW). Hopefully we will see hundreds of planes in the future if the engine is as scaleable as Oleg claims.
From what Nearmiss as said then DX11 is not supported, I imagine this was from some inside source I doubt he would just make it up, I dont think there will be a dynamic campaign either if my memory serves me correctly but I could be mistaken.
