I'm fairly confident that Bader and Tuck knew their 109s - perhaps not as well as your average banana forumite of course, what with his unfailing knowledge of all things botanical or aeronautical - but they did their best I'm sure and that's the main thing.

The DB601Aa engine intended for the E-3 could mount an MG FF 20mm cannon on its crankcase, the weapon in turn firing through the airscrew hub. However, the problems of vibration, seizing and overheating that had beset the engine-mounted MG FF persisted, and was rarely used in frontline service.
