How does any
'Side Mission' prevent you from advancing in the
'Story Line'? I have never experienced this.

How could I decide to accept a job or not if I don't know if it fits into my schedule or not. All I can do is save constantly in case a call comes in and I have to take the job to check out where does it take me. And if its unacceptable I have to load the last save game and turn it down. You sure do take the fun, and mystery out this game. See my thread "SPOILER ALERT!", and go to post #20
(Side Missions), and look at all the Side Mission Videos. There isn't one of them that doesn't tell you where to make a pick up, and drop it off. It's up to you
(like a real trucker) to decide if you want to accept it, keeping in mind the loads, and missions you currently have. The person on the other end of the CB doesn't know your current load/mission status. This is part of the design, mystery, and fun of the game. You seem to want this portion of the game to be detailed for your own satisfaction. It's part of the game design, and requires you to think, and experiment with it. I've tried to convey this to you before, and you just can't seem to get any kind of grip on this. You keep calling it a design flaw, programming error, glitch, or what ever. It's
not. It's done on purpose, and they're not going to change it to please you, and you seem to be the only one complaining about it, and doing it often.
Play it, learn it, experiment with it, and for
crying-out-loud try to have fun, and enjoy it!
