I get sick to my stomach at the cinema's if I see a movie with all that gore and a dude in front of starts to laugh and say "wooo cool". I am not squeemish, but I think that is just sick.

It's entertainment, it's no secret that blood, violence and gore sells and the market is obviously big enough for it.
A game like DOOM without gore , horror and physiological effects would be useless since it's the whole point of a horror, survival / brutal game.
How this type of game even can be mentioned in the same sentence as SoW is a mystery for me, why in the world would SOW turn out to be a gorefest?
But there are cases when gore adds to realism in a decent way , look at Red Orchestra or Brothers in Arms etc you see limbs torn apart since its a common thing of war..
