Waffen SS Winter Soldier

Trivia: The winter soldiers have hat meshes and head textures of early German soldier designs. However, when you take their uniforms, their face changes to that of the finalized German soldier. Unlike winter officers, winter soldiers have no unique nude model, so they use the nude model of normal German soldiers. During development of MoTMod, since winter soldiers do not make a comeback in MoT missions, forlik somehow got Haggard Games to adapt the winter soldier skeletons for MoT use. The same went for Strogov in winter soldier uniforms. However, as of 1.11, Strogov has his old DtS head texture when wearing a winter soldier's uniform.

Description: A WWI veteran, Standartenführer (Colonel) Andreas Meyer-Mader would afterwards serve as one of Chiang Kai-shek's advisors. In Ukraine, his group "set out to strangle and annihilate every living thing". After being promoted to his current rank, he was given command of the 1st Eastern Muslim SS Regiment. Because of this, and the fact that his units are made up of Soviet citizens, Strogov is tasked by SMERSH to assassinate Meyer-Mader and his apprentices, Obersturmbannführers Bartels and Knut.

A previous assassination attempt on Meyer-Mader has caused the Germans to increase security around him. He usually sits at his desk on the second floor in the main building, but he occasionally goes to the radio room to fiddle with one of the radios. You could use this opportunity to your advantage.

Trivia: His neck cross is incorrect. As of MoTMod 1.11, he still has his DtS skeleton. You cannot take his uniform!

Wenk Bartels

Trivia: He is said to be an Obersturmbannführer, but his collar insignia and epaulettes are those of an Obersturmführer (First Lieutenant), three ranks below Obersturmbannführer. The collar also has a white border around the edges, which was actually worn by junior officers. As of MoTMod 1.11, he still has his DtS skeleton. You cannot take his uniform! Initially, when MoTMod came out, there was a bug which prevented Bartels from drinking. MoTMod 1.01 onwards corrects this!

Heinrich Knut

Description: SS-Standartenführer (Colonel) Hans Himmel is the principal of the Abwehr intelligence school in Krakow. In addition to stealing the files on German agents, Strogov is tasked by SMERSH to assassinate Himmel and his deputy, SS-Sturmbannführer Adolf Steinglitz.
Trivia: In reality, the Abwehr didn't get along with the SS. Many of the Abwehr's operatives — including Canaris himself — were in fact anti-Nazi and were involved in many assassination attempts against Hitler, including the most serious one on July 20, 1944. Canaris even employed Jews in the Abwehr and used the agency to help a small number of Jews to escape from Germany into Switzerland. But perhaps the biggest reason was that Canaris himself sought to undermine the Nazi cause. So it's weird for a high-ranking SS Colonel to be in charge of an Abwehr school in occupied Poland.

In DtS, the opening cutscene for Die Spies! claims that the documents can only be found in a safe in Himmel's office, when in fact two separate documents are found elsewhere in the school.

Another oddity is that both Himmel and Steinglitz have the word "Wehrmacht" on their cuff bands. Himmel has an MoT skeleton in MoTMod despite only appearing in a single DtS mission. In localized versions of DtS, like other Nazi paraphernalia, his swastika armband is censored. Strogov cannot use his uniform!

Adolf Steinglitz

Moosburg Concentration Camp Warden

Trivia: The wardens still have their DtS skeleton in MoTMod, even though Strogov in the warden's uniform (despite his DtS head texture) has an MoT skeleton. They also wear an armband signifying they're from the 5th SS Panzer Divison "Wiking".

Description: At the outset of the war, the Luftwaffe was one of the most modern, powerful, and experienced air forces in the world, dominating the skies over Europe with aircraft much more advanced than their foreign counterparts. The Luftwaffe was central to the German Blitzkrieg (lightning war) doctrine, as the close air support provided by various medium two-engine bombers, Stuka dive bombers and an overwhelming force of tactical fighters were key to several early successes. However, unlike the British and American Air Forces, the Luftwaffe never developed four-engine bombers in any significant numbers, and was thus unable to conduct an effective long-range strategic bombing campaign against either the Russians or the Western Allies.

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was the most versatile and widely-produced fighter aircraft operated by the Luftwaffe and was designed when biplanes were still standard. Many versions of this aircraft were made. The engine, a liquid cooled Mercedes-Benz DB 601, initially generated up to almost 1,000 hp (750 kW). This power increased as direct fuel injection was introduced to the engines. The kill ratio (almost 9:1) made clear this plane was far superior than any of the other German fighters during the war. In this regard it was followed by the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 at 4:1. This plane had relatively short wings and was powered by a radial BMW engine. The Junkers Ju 87 Stuka was a main asset for Blitzkrieg, able to place bombs with deadly accuracy. The leader of the Luftwaffe was Hermann Göring, a World War I fighter ace and former commander of Manfred von Richthofen's famous JG 1 (aka "The Flying Circus") who had joined the Nazi party in its early stages.

In the summer and autumn of 1940, the Luftwaffe lost the Battle of Britain over the skies of England, the first all-air battle. Following the military failures on the Eastern Front, from 1942 onwards, the Luftwaffe went into a steady, gradual decline that saw it outnumbered and overwhelmed by the sheer number of Allied aircraft being deployed against it. Towards the end of the war, the Luftwaffe was no longer a major factor, and despite fielding advanced aircraft like the Messerschmitt Me 262, Heinkel He 162, Arado Ar 234, and Me 163 it was crippled by fuel shortages and a lack of trained pilots. There was also very little time to develop the new aircraft, and they could not be produced fast enough by the Germans, so the jet- and rocket-powered planes proved to be "too little too late".

Trivia: The head texture "pilot_head1.dds" is used for the two test pilots you're supposed to capture.

Description: The Kriegsmarine (War Navy) was the name of the German Navy between 1935 and 1945, during the Nazi regime, superseding the Reichsmarine, and the Kaiserliche Marine of World War I. The Kriegsmarine was one of three official branches of the Wehrmacht. It grew rapidly during German naval rearmaments under Plan Z, a large plan calling for the construction of many naval vessels. The ships of the Kriegsmarine, some of which (mostly battlecruisers) were made under Plan Z, fought during the Spanish Civil War and World War II. Its most famous ships were the U-boat wolf packs, constructed after Plan Z was abandoned on the eve of World War. They were submarine groups which seriously harassed Allied convoys during the Battle of the Atlantic. Along with them, pocket battleships managed to disrupt Allied shipping in the earlier years of the war before being halted by convoy escorts. At the end of the Second World War, the Kriegsmarine's remaing ships were divided up amongst the Allied powers and were used for minesweeping.

Trivia: The sailors have the words "Marineschule Wesermünde" on their caps.
