I think you will struggle without a joystick, Meketreff. Though a few people have apparently managed with just a keyboard, I'd be hopeless without a joystick. I'd have a look around and see what you can get hold of. Even a gamepad-style stick works after a fashion, provided it has analog input - I started off with one of these. If you can't afford to buy one right now, ask around amongst your friends to see if you can borrow one - it will give you a better idea of the advantages.
I'd say that if you are at all interested in IL-2, or in flight sims in general, a joystick is well worth spending some money on. You will probably get to use it more than you would any other kind of input device, and if you get hooked on IL-2 (like most of us on these forums), the 'cost per hour' is almost nothing.
