Interesting reading about an old bastard
An anecdote that happened while the soviet air force heroes where bombing the civilians in the Baltics to pieces:
My grandmother was one day going to a bakery to buy bread in the Baltic coastal town Pernau (Estonia). The air sirens went off and the staff hurried with the change. She got a pure gold coin by mistake as change (really valuable). She realized this when she got home and went back to the bakery - but it was completely bombed out by the russian bombers... She made a neclace of it as she meant it was a lucky coin and my mother got it - and then gave it to my son who has it now.
They fled to Sweden in october of 1944 to avoid the russians, and stayed here after the war.
