At the moment I fly in the larger arcade and realistic games.

The problems with the current simulator modes are:

Players cannot use authentic aerobatics to evade and attack.... unless they want their planes to freak out, spin and crash. (Which is basically what most people do).

Players using X-Box controllers are unable to look around very well so folks with joysticks have a huge advantage over their "blinkered" non-joystick players.

Certain aircraft do not have authentic performance or maneuverability.

Lack of cockpit views makes sideways relative side views of targets a problem.

Basically, where I'm one of the top aces on arcade and realistic, having evasive maneuvers honed to an artform, in simulator I have the choice between attempting to pull a classic aerobatic evade and having the aircraft crash or just do barrel rolls / turn in circles, which are the only two things that are possible in simulator mode.

I also have the choice of viewing my attacker but loosing the use of my rudder to do so, or flying blinkered and guessing how my assailant is doing keeping up.

The D-pad look back only gives a limited fixed view behind, so if the assainlant goe out of frame then there's a problem.

It is interesting that folks who are good in arcade and realistic suck in simulator and vice versa.

I've noticed that simulator players find it hard to cope with the complex aerobatics of well timed twists and turns of arcade mode, though realistic tends to have players pull rather looser and shakeir versions of the precision aerobatics in arcade mode.

I do play simulator mode when I'm bored and there is no arcade or realistic games going. I might even manage to shoot someone down before I'm shot down myself.... if I'm lucky.

I'll either fly an Fw-190 A5 because I find the quick response good for instant freak out recovery, plus the Mg.151 cannons sound cool, or I'll endure the total lack of armour, firepower and structural integrety of Soviet fighters as a trade off for more flight stability.

I kind of predict that the Fw-190 will be the fighter of choice, once the patch arrives. A few of us do well already, in all the modes, with the Fw-190, having already figured how to exploit what advantages it has.
