Question for the plane buffs
I was always under the impression the bf109 was called the me109? is this a different plane, am i being retarded, or is it some kind of licensing issue?
cheers guys X] |
This is a bit confusing but I try my best to explain:
When the 109's design was sent to the decision makers in Germany in the early 30's, the design was submitted by Bayerische Flugzeugwerke hence the designation "Bf". In the late 30's the company was aquired by Willy Messerschmitt and renamed to Messerschmitt AG. All models submitted after the name change got the designation "Me". So eventhough Me 109 is used here and there - the correct model name is Bf 109 - even for 109-models after 1938 - since the design got the "Bf" designation... |
